<p>June 10th is National Portugal Day and it is a day for people of Portuguese descent to celebrate across the world. In Portugal it is known as Dia de Camões (Day of Camões) because it is dedicated to the famous Portuguese poet Luís de Camões who died on the 10th June 1580.</p>
<p>Luís de Camões was the author of one of the most important works in Portuguese literature &#8220;Os Lusíadas&#8221;. This collection of poems celebrates Portugal&#8217;s epic history and the voyages of discovery which brought the land and it&#8217;s people fame and fortune.</p>
<p>Portugal Day is a day to remember your roots, get together and party. Listen to Portuguese music, drink a glass of port, visit a Portuguese restaurant or read <a href="http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/3333">The Lusiads</a>. Let&#8217;s celebrate this wonderful country!</p>

<p>Tournée de coro londrino de categoria mundial<br />
Crouch End Festival Chorus<br />
24 a 31 de Maio 2008<br />
Em Maio deste ano, um dos coros de mais renome do Reino Unido, o Crouch End Festival Chorus, irá passar uma semana em Lisboa e arredores, realizando quatro concertos de música maravilhosa em Belém, na Estrela, em Fátima e em Sintra.</p>
<p>O coro goza de grande fama no Reino Unido, onde realiza regularmente concertos em prestigiadas salas de espectáculos londrinas, tais como The Festival Hall, The Royal Albert Hall e The Barbican.</p>
<p>O coro actuou recentemente com Teresa Salgueiro e já cantou e fez gravações com diversos artistas, incluindo o compositor Ennio Morricone, os maestros Valery Gergiev e Daniele Gatti e os cantores Lesley Garrett and Andrea Boccelli.</p>
<p>Além disso, o coro já efectuou numerosas gravações, que vão desde a música da popular série televisiva Dr. Who a múltipas bandas sonoras de filmes tais como Lord of the Rings e Saving Private Ryan.</p>

<p>I was recently approached by the PR contact of Crouch End Festival Chorus, a London based choir asking if I would be interested in hearing more about their up and coming trip to Lisbon. I thought it would be a good idea to start including up-and-coming events in Lisbon so if you hear of something you think others might like to know about, then feel free to contact me. Below is the press release regarding the choir&#8217;s tour of Lisbon and itinerary.</p>
<p>Tour of World Class London Choir<br />
Crouch End Festival Chorus<br />
24th – 31st May 2008</p>
<p>In May this year one of England’s best known choirs, Crouch End Festival Chorus, will be in and around Lisbon for a week, singing four concerts of beautiful music in Fatima, Belem, Sintra and Lisbon itself.</p>
<p>The choir is well known in the United Kingdom, where it sings regularly in the top London concert halls such as The Festival Hall, The Royal Albert Hall and The Barbican.</p>

<p>Recently the choir sang with Portuguese singing star Teresa Salgueiro and it has performed and recorded with artists as diverse as film music composer Ennio Morricone, conductors Valery Gergiev and Daniele Gatti and singers Lesley Garrett and Andrea Boccelli.</p>
<p>In addition, the choir can be found on many recordings, from the music of the popular British TV show Dr. Who and a host of film music and classical recordings such as Lord of the Rings and Saving Private Ryan.</p>
